Allegation of research misconduct

EDUCAN: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam is committed to maintaining academic integrity, research ethics, and responsible scholarly publishing. The journal takes allegations of research misconduct seriously and addresses them fairly, confidentially, and objectively.

Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to, plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate manipulation of images or research results, unethical research practices, improper authorship attribution, duplicate publication, and other violations of accepted standards of research and publication ethics.

Procedures for Handling Allegations

When an allegation of research misconduct is received, the editorial team will follow these procedures:

  1. Initial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or designated editor will assess the allegation and the available evidence to determine whether further investigation is warranted.
  2. Preliminary Investigation: If the allegation has sufficient grounds, the editorial team may request explanations, supporting documents, original data, or other relevant information from the authors.
  3. Communication with Relevant Parties: The journal may contact the corresponding author, other authors, their affiliated institutions, or relevant parties when necessary to clarify the allegation and obtain additional information.
  4. Fair and Confidential Review: All allegations will be handled impartially and confidentially to the extent possible. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to the concerns raised.
  5. Editorial Decision: Based on the available evidence and the outcome of the assessment, the journal may take appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies. Actions may include rejection of a submitted manuscript, correction of a published article, publication of an expression of concern, retraction of an article, or referral of the matter to the relevant institution when appropriate.
  6. Institutional Referral: In cases involving serious or unresolved allegations, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant author's institution or other appropriate authority for further investigation.

Responsibilities of Authors and Editors

Authors are expected to cooperate with investigations and provide accurate information and supporting evidence when requested. Editors are responsible for handling allegations objectively, avoiding conflicts of interest, protecting the integrity of the editorial process, and ensuring that decisions are based on credible evidence.

EDUCAN: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam does not consider an allegation alone to be proof of misconduct. Any action taken will be proportionate to the evidence available and consistent with the principles of fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and publication ethics.

The journal may refer to established publication ethics guidelines, including those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), when handling allegations of research misconduct.
